FRANK J. SCHERBER
DECORATIVE DECOY CARVER

Frank Scherber is a self-taught decorative decoy carver.
For 18 years, he has mastered his craft in his workshop
located in Grasonville, Maryland.
He began carving after retiring and it has become his
favorite pastime which he finds relaxing, rewarding and a
very enjoyable hobby.
Working with an array of tools such as chisels, a rotary
rasp, wood burner and a medium of paints and airbrush, he
creates pieces with a naturalistic beauty.
Frank researches the natural environments of each species,
adding his special touch, bringing each piece to life.
Using mostly Tupelo wood, he enjoys creating a large variety
of life sized and scaled down waterfowl, songbirds and birds
of prey, many of which are mounted on beautiful bases
made from walnut. Each is dated and signed with his feather
trademark.
There are always new techniques to learn in order to advance
his carving skills, which gives him the satisfaction of creating
beautiful works of art to be enjoyed by his customers.
Known to many as ‘Mr. Frank,’ he thoroughly enjoys engaging
festival patrons in conversation, explaining and sometimes
offering examples of his carving techniques to those who
visit his exhibit.
His work is shown and sold at various local Artisan Festivals
throughout the Eastern Shore area and has been on exhibit
at the ‘Fire and Rain Artisan Gallery’ in Killingworth,
Connecticut.
